Tuberculosis Exposure Screening

A TB skin test (Mantoux) is the best way to tell if you have Tuberculosis infection. TB disease has multiple signs and symptoms and is spread from person to person through the air. Others can breathe the TB germs into their lungs and contract TB infection. TB infection is not contagious and does not have signs and symptoms. If someone with TB infection is not treated with medicine they could develop TB disease.

You should get tested if:
  • You have spent time with a person with known or suspected TB disease.
  • You are emergency medical response personnel, transporting and performing procedures on an individual with suspected or confirmed TB, or a public safety worker.
  • You have a health condition that puts you at high risk for TB disease.
  • You live in a community where TB disease is more common.
