Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT)

The Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) is a group of breathing maneuvers that assess the function of the lungs. JobCare utilizes the Pulmonary Function Test to evaluate an employee’s ability to wear a respirator safely.

The Pulmonary Function Test will consist of:

Spirometry—the main measurements include: forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC)

Testing of lung function is important in assisting the physician in the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory ailments. The results of tests are compared with charts of normal values based on age, sex, and height. If values are less than 80% of the normal values, then you are more likely to have some type of lung disease. The results of the individual tests may help the doctor diagnose a specific disorder.

JobCare utilizes the NHANES III reference equations for data analysis to comply with industry standards.
