Healthfair Screenings
Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is when blood moves through the arteries at a higher pressure than normal. High blood pressure is a “silent disease” and should be monitored at least every two years, or as often as advised.
Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI)
The Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to the blood pressure in the arms. Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg is a symptom of blocked arteries (Peripheral Vascular Disease).
Heel Bone Density
Low heel bone density may be a symptom of Osteoporosis. This screening is performed by using an ultrasound machine and test results are available within two minutes.
Lipid Profile Screening/Glucose Screening
It is recommended that healthy adults with no other risk factors for heart disease be tested with a fasting lipid profile once every five years. The sample is collected from a finger stick and results are available in 7 minutes. The profile results are total cholesterol, HDL (good), LDL (bad), VLDL, triglycerides, TC/HDL ratio (heart disease risk ratio), and glucose.
A1c Screening
The A1c sample is collected from a finger stick and results are available in 8 minutes. This screening tool gives a picture of the average amount of glucose in the blood over the last few months and isn’t affected by having eaten before the test.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body Mass Index definition, or BMI, is a number from the results of a calculation using a person’s weight and height. The results of the BMI formula are used as a tool to screen a person for potential weight problems due to body fat. Excess weight and body fat could put a person at risk for certain diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes just to name a few. This test is performed using calipers to measure skin folds.
Grip Strength
The vast majority of our daily tasks involve our hands. The grip test gives us insight into how our hands, and upper body, are functioning. By addressing issues early, we can reduce the effects of what is occurring, both at work and at home. This test is performed by using the grip dynamometer.
The clients test results are reviewed with the nurse and informational brochures are available.
